Michael George Westra Takes on Massive Swell at Barrack Point

The last week in July 2024, the East Coast of Australia experienced one of its most thrilling swells in recent memory, captivating surfers and wave sailors alike. Among those daring enough to tackle the monstrous waves was none other than our very own Australian Wavesailing vice champion, Michael George Westra. Known affectionately as the “Warilla Gorilla,” Michael showcased his incredible skills and fearless spirit at Barrack Point during this epic swell.

As reports flooded in about the massive swells and strong winds from the south and south west gusting well above 30 knots hitting the coastline, anticipation built among all who would have the courage to take it on.

His impressive technique demonstrated not just his prowess but also his deep connection with the ocean. Michael’s ability to navigate such tumultuous waters alone exemplifies both his skill and passion for wavesailing.
