After a long Covid-stricken winter, Summer is almost here, and wavesailing is nearly back. Despite the challenges of Covid-19, the NSW Wavesailing Association has put together yet another great season.
The East Coast Titles is back and improved, there are new locations on the calendar and expression sessions will be expanded into exciting ‘social sessions. The season will kick off over the October long weekend (3-5 October 2020), once again in Woolgoolga.
The 2020/21 Summer Wavesailing Series will build on the highly successful structure implemented last season, delivering an experience all can enjoy. We have made some small tweaks based on competitor feedback to make the Summer Wavesailing Series even better than before. We will be following all government directives regarding the Covid-19 pandemic and remaining flexible so we can adapt to changing circumstances if necessary.
Introducing: The Social Session
New for 2020/21, we will be dedicating the first hour of every event to what we are calling a ‘social session’. This will be a low-pressure, fun-focused, unstructured sailing session where all levels of sailors can enjoy the water. We understand heats aren’t for everyone, so this provides a great alternative for those who still want to be a part of our events, and maybe be involved in judging, but don’t want to sail in heats. They’re also a great start to the day for those who are into heats. Prizes will be given targeting new, intermediate and exciting wavesailors.
Shoalhaven – a new spot for 2020-21
New on the 2020-21 calendar is an event based in Shoalhaven. Depending on conditions, we will look to use either the Berry Turnoff or Shoalhaven Heads on 7 Mile Beach. As with all of our events we also have backup locations in case conditions are not playing ball.
East Coast Titles
Hugely popular in 2019, the East Coast Titles are back for 2020. With the unfortunate cancellation of the 2020 Merimbula Classic, this will be the event to be at in November 2020.
After receiving feedback from many sailors, the NSWWA has decided to include the East Coast Titles in the points race for the Summer Wavesailing Series championship. The inclusion of a fifth event into the Summer Wavesailing Series means that competitors can now drop their worst result from their end-of-season result.
