The 2019-2020 NSW Wavesailing Series has finally arrived with five great events scheduled, and a number of exciting changes. The calendar for the 2019/20 series will once again feature the Summer Wavesailing Series with four events along the east coast. In addition, 2019/20 will see the introduction of an all-new East Coast Titles event. Other exciting highlights include more locations, electronic judging and expression sessions.
The Summer Wavesailing Series will kick off at Woolgoolga over the Labour Day long weekend (5-7 October 2019), followed by the annual stop at Wanda Beach, Cronulla in December (7-8 December 2019), a huge GerroaFest on 1-2 February 2020, before the series wraps up in the Illawarra as summer does (29 February – 1 March 2020).
New to 2019/20, we will be introducing a winner-takes-all East Coast Titles event. This four-day long event will pit wavesailors from across Australia against each other, competing to be the 2019/20 champion. The event will take place over the Saturday-Tuesday before the Merimbula Classic (16-19 November 2019) , allowing competitors to take part in both great events. For this event we will have a number of spots available to use so competition can take place in the best conditions.
A huge number of windsurfers provided their feedback in our Windsurfing Survey and we listened. The survey showed us that different people wanted to get different things out of our events, so we have worked hard to create a series that works for everyone. While details will be announced in coming weeks, one big change will be that in addition to electronically judged heats (thanks to the great SurfComp App), all events will include an expression session for those who aren’t so into heats, or sailors who just want more time on the water.
