The 31sty Merimbula Classic – brought to you by Corona
17 OctIt’s obviously the start of the season as there are loads of excellent events taking place over the next two months! The Merimbula Classic is one such event and is allocated time within our season calender. The following information is from Merimbula Sailboard Club:

Now in its 31st year, the Merimbula Classic has become an annual 4 day fun event that kitesurfers, wave surfers and, in recent years, SUP surfers just do not want to miss.
Held at Merimbula, on the far south coast of NSW, this contest is the longest running event of its type, in the world. It is a chance for contestants from all over Australia, and from far away shores, to come together for action, food, fun, friendship and lots of good times, both on and off the water. Many a great yarn has been spun over the odd beer or three.
Manufacturers and retailers set up their stalls on Ford Oval, adjacent to the beach to show off their wares, and the wind and wave warriors can strut their stuff in the pristine waves breaking just off shore. The early morning sup brigade can usually be found watching the sun rise as they sweep across the glistening waters, before the wind comes up. Last year’s Beach to Bar sup race sprung up a surprise when entrants had to do a lap or two of the
carpark on the street sup boards that proved to be such a hit.
There is something for everyone. The BBQ brigade serve up gourmet fare for breakfast, and lunch and everyone can relax over refreshments around the club house at the end of the day. Entertainment at night will encompass kiting/sailing films, and music to rock your socks off as well as a bumper prize giving fun fare at the presentation on Sunday evening.
If you would like to become involved as a sponsor ( we just LOVE all our sponsors) and/or a contestant, or feel you have something to contribute as a volunteer, then John Smythe, contest director is just itching to hear from you. Contact John by email or phone 0407 260 015 or (02)64956617.
Fancy trying something a little different?
10 OctThe 2011-12 NSW Windsurf Tour “Slalom Series” will comprise of 4 events over the summer hosted on Botany Bay, Sydney. The events will be subject to wind forecast and confirmation of each event will occur on the Thursday preceding the proposed event dates (check website below or Seabreeze).
We at NSW Wavesailing Association have been chatting to the Windsurfing NSW Association and have decided it could be a lot of fun to give a bit of slalom racing a go. The impression we get is that we might do quite well (thanks to being able to carve gybe!) and that the first event – 30th October – will be quite informal and not too serious!
So, if you fancy trying something a little different why not join a few of us at Botany Bay on Sunday the 30th of October.

Guys and Gals, check out this movie where the head judges (of the PWA Kiltmolle 2011 final) share their judging methodology in a very detailed way. We recommend all members watch this 44 min movie so as to improve our own judging skills and make our comp results even more accurate: http://bambuser.com/channel/coldhawaii/broadcast/1980285.
