NSWWA- Season Finale, Event 5 – Illawarra

11 Feb

The 5th and final event of the 2011/12 NSW Wavesailing Association season is on next weekend – 18/19 February! We can’t believe it is coming to an end. We will put together a season wrap but suffice to say this has been a standout season. Record numbers of competitors, great conditions (in what has been an average season) and amazing sponsors.

We have some excellent gear up for grabs from all of our sponsors over the season – the support we get from you really is appreciated. Windsurfnsnow, The Windsurfing Shed, Ask Huey, Neil Pryde/JP and Dirty Dog have all been great, thanks.

We will be running a SUCCINCT AGM on Saturday. Please come along if you have views on the association. Adrien and I will be making sure this is a quick affair. If you have something to add, think of what you’re going to say in advance!

Bring your dress thongs as we’ll no doubt be heading to Fishos to finish the night off!

There are a number of Top 3 places still to be contested so make sure you join us!

Competition information

23 Jan

Just as a reminder the competition this weekend is the 4th of five events – IE the penultimate event. The February event is not a teams event but the final scoring event for the 2011-12 series (as agreed at the AGM).

We will look to run the AGM on Saturday 18th February – if you want a say or provide input into the NSWWA then make sure you are in Gerroa on that day.

Thanks and see you on the weekend!

Latest news – Event 4, Illawarra

21 Jan

Just to let you all know that Remi from The Windsurfing Shed has donated an amazing amount of gear for the competition next weekend. Board and boom bags, sails and other very useful bits and pieces.

Come and compete and you might just end up with some great product.

Thanks Remi and The Windsurfing Shed.

See you in Gerroa (or Windang)!!

Event 4 – 28th/29th January – Illawarra

15 Jan

Pro’s, Ams, Ladies, Juniors, Masters and the yet to be decided, NSWWA in association with our event sponsor, The Windsurfing Shed and series sponsor Neil Pryde are proud to bring you Event 4 of the 2011/12 NSWWA season.

We are all hoping that conditions are similar to the last event at Gerroa (see our pictures to the right if you’re the only person in NSW not to have seen the pics!).

Please remember that this weekend is just after Australia Day so accommodation may be a little harder than usual to come by.

We hope to see the regulars and as many new competitors as possible.

See you in Gerroa! (or Windang if Southerly).

Demo time!

23 Dec

Luckily the NSWWA get to demo some of the absolute latest equipment from the best shapers in the world. Recently, we have been fortunate to demo a “hexo” board, shaped by an underground, boutique group of wavesailors who call their brand OKJE (pronounced Oak-Gee) after the four key sailors – Oli, Kai, Jason (not Polakow) and Ed. Before we get in to too much detail, we should point out that a “hexo” is what OKJE are phrasing their 6 finned board (as in hexagon). The design brief was straight forward, yet very hard to find the right solution that could be programmed into CAD. The brief was “design a board that had the lively feel, straight line speed, big drawn out turns of a single fin, the super snappy, exciting, brilliant frontside ability of a twin and the loose, grippy drive with top turn slide of a quad”. The one thing that wasn’t in the brief was to emulate the “fat boys” board, as OKJE had been reassured that this was covered off with a Gerroa specific 99ltr thruster.
